Raccoons VS Coyote

"You are dealing with a Raccoon not a Coyote." said a friend with a large ‘ranch’.

They continued, "There is a fine line of stewardship between respecting wild animals, yet protecting ones’ flock. Sometimes conflicts occur. With Coyotes, all I need to do is re-establish my borders and after a few unpleasant encounters, they will respect them.

Raccoons on the other hand, continually challenge every perimeter finding, exploiting and creating tiny weaknesses; ever re-drawing my border smaller. You can try all kinds of nastiness, motion strobe lights, electrified fences, metal caging, yes even trapping and moving; yet Raccoons will continue to challenge and persevere. I will take a Coyote over a Raccoon any day."

If you find yourself in a contentious relationship, it is extremely valuable to recognize early if you are dealing with a Raccoon or a Coyote. It may not strengthen your stance, both are dangerous to engage; however, it will save your sanity. While I prefer to never be in such situations, take the high road especially as a Raccoon is ‘Raccooning’ you throughout a process.

I will take a Coyote over a Raccoon any day.
