Ready, Fire Aim!
In many cases, when you peel all the other problems away, at the core you find a problem with sequencing.
Stuff was done out of order.
When teams are being built. Often there is an underlying stressor: “We need to get something done now!", so teams of do’ers are brought in to start the work. This relieves the pressure (“look, we are doing something") Then the search continues for a leader.
The problem is, even if you have the perfect leader. They have been brought in at a disadvantage. The team they have may not be the team they would have chosen. Spend and budget has been partially consumed, partnerships, vendors, platforms chosen. Even a culture set.
A great leader will work through these issues.
But one change of sequencing, Bringing in the leader first, can change everything. The leader can fully use their ability to enroll others to the cause, build their culture, set the stage. At first this may cost you time, but in the end you will have a higher functioning more engaged team.
This is but one example of a sequencing root issue. I am sure we’ll hear more in the comments.
Have I mentioned the cost and pain of running network & power infrastructure after walls were installed?
