Thoughts around Data

We all know that this is happening,
We are the industry.

Heck I have created apps/services/capabilities that play on these techniques.

Three clips I came across
11 mins of your time,
together they explain how data can influence and predict.

Food for thought.

good, bad, or just the new norm?

The following ‘thought seeds’

  • the concept of a ‘shadow twin’ which is created from your behavior data, anonymized.
  • a ‘shadow twin’ can have huge value, especially in building simulations
  • If you build a sophisticated enough simulation, you can predict behavior.
  • One could argue that given a good enough simulation the prediction could be good enough to almost perfectly know the outcome, in this case what does that say about free will? (WestWorld season 2 🙂 )
  • With a good enough simulation and a powerful enough computation you can run through massive ‘a/b’ test in real time to influence outcome
  • Companies are doing this now (Google/Facebook/Amazon etc don’t even need to anonymize the data when using internally )
  • Companies are not necessarily using behavior science, psychology, etc with intent much is emergent results based simply on doing iterative, data and test based approaches.
  • Concept of Asymmetric Power

There is a huge amount of stuff for thought in these three short clips.
