Value of a Designer
You're a tech guy,
Why did you bring on a designer?
Usually one of the first people I enroll onto a team is a designer.
Someone who is very good with digital tools, and super creative.
One who understands Consumer Experience (CX) and User Experience (UX).
Someone who knows how to create in the both physical and digital.
This first hire, often surprises corporate organizations.
"Aren’t you a Tech guy, why are you hiring a designer?"
"Um this isn’t a job description we can post for our Tech area"
"So they need what software licenses? A monitor that 3x expensive as our standard one?"
I have shared before why a CX/UX person can be the most valuable person on your team: http://bit.ly/2p2GzgJ
But if you are a startup, or starting something new in an enterprise, a designer will help you communicate.
A strong designer is a synthesizer, a translator who makes difficult concepts understandable.
It is more than just having a drawing ‘made pretty’ a good designer empathizes with the audience. That audience can be your customer, your team, your org, or your board members.
A designer is a multiplier who will multiply your teams vision, essential to creating a 10x team.
