When you know your why.
I have written in the past about how you need to ‘ride your headlights’ http://bit.ly/2OWpfEq with a vision that looks just beyond the operational capabilities of your org.
What I haven’t shared is just how hard this is in practice.
Affecting change and motion requires dealing with inertia and gravity http://bit.ly/2J3BUlo Sometimes usually around 3 am, the dark night of the soul, your visions start feeling like pipe dreams, frankly like bullshit.
One wonders if one is being a confidence man, pandering snake oil.
This is when you need to go back to your ‘why’
Why are you doing this?
Why does this matter?
My ‘why’ is documented in my mission,
my team knows our ‘why’
but sometimes that is not enough.
I have found my ‘why’ returning back to my customer or end-user,
I have found my ‘why’ through cohorts of others who share a similar journey but are doing it outside of my org or vertical, (certain conferences are a great help)
I have found my ‘why’ learning from the past history of others,
Your ‘why’ is important; it becomes a strong good intended reason to create disruption that will help you when you awaken at 3 am, and when the corporate antibodies mobilize.
When you know your why, you can endure any ‘how’
